Two years after Amazon’s streaming platform let go of its executives in Southeast Asia and paused financing local productions, Prime Video is back, investing in Filipino content through its Prime Original slate and acquired films. It is also bringing international titles and beloved anime titles into the mix.

Prime Video revealed that a new “The Ghost in the Shell” anime series, produced by Science SARU, will stream exclusively on the platform. In case you’re an anime noob, “The Ghost In The Shell” is a cyberpunk science fiction that follows the story of the full-body cyborg Motoko Kusanagi and the combat force she leads in the fight against cybercrime. It is set in a near-future when information networks envelop the world and highly advanced cyborg augmentation technology has enabled the creation of the cyberbrain.

Another anime series to watch out for on Prime Video is the second season of “From Old Country Bumpkin To Master Swordsman.” It revolves around a middle-aged man running a small dojo in his sleepy town. His life suddenly changed when he was appointed  as a special instructor to the Royal Order of Knights.

    Ramping up Filipino content

One of the films it was supposed to fund in 2024 during the massive layoffs, was Jerrold Tarog’s Quezon, the third film in the Bayaniverse series. After months of radio silence about the deal, TBA Studios secured alternate funding and released the film in theaters last year.

In the end, it was a case of all’s well that ends well. Prime Video has acquired the streaming rights to the Jericho Rosales-starrer and included it in its roster of licensed films revealed during the “Prime Video Presents: Philippines” event held in Makati City on Tuesday. According to its press release, Prime Video will also be the new home of previous Bayaniverse films “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.” “Quezon” is set to drop on Prime Video in May.

Apart from the historical trilogy, Prime Video has also acquired streaming rights to GMA Pictures’ satirical comedy “Samahan ng mga Makasalanan” (April) and horror anthology “Gabi ng Lagim” (June), 901 Studios’ legal coming-of-age drama “Bar Boys: After School” (June), and sapphic film “Open Endings” (July), which won the Best Ensemble Performance award at the 21st Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.

“We’ve seen Filipino audiences embrace global Prime Video hits like ‘The Boys’ and ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty,’ which shows the appetite for premium storytelling,” said David Simonsen, director of Prime Video Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. “Now we’re bringing that same commitment to quality with local originals featuring Filipino talent.”

Simonsen noted that Prime Video brings Filipino audiences everything they love to watch — all in one place: local stories that reflect their experiences, international entertainment that connects them globally, and live sports with NBA, which resonates deeply with basketball-loving Filipino fans.

    Prime Originals

The streaming platform also announced a new wave of Prime Original series — “The Silent Noise” (already streaming), “Love Is Never Gone” (May 8), “The Loyalty Game” (July), “Honor Thy Mother” (September), and “Kopino” (November). The Vice Ganda-fronted “LOL: Last One Laughing Philippines” Season 2 and Marian Rivera-topbilled “Behind Closed Doors” are also in the works, with no announced release dates yet.

Produced by ABS-CBN Studios, “The Silent Noise” is a crime drama that follows a family whose lives crumble after the suspicious death of the teacher of their deaf son. The series stars Angelica Panganiban, Zanjoe Marudo, KD Omalin, Zaijian Jaranilla, and Mutya Orquia.

Also produced by ABS-CBN Studios, “Love Is Never Gone” is a romantic drama that follows two individuals from different worlds whose lives unexpectedly intersect in Morocco, leading to a journey of love, passion, and emotional healing. It stars Joshua Garcia and Ivana Alawi.

“The Loyalty Game,” meanwhile, is a psychological drama about a seemingly perfect couple (played by real-life sweethearts Jericho Rosales and Janine Gutierrez) begins to test limits of their relationship when a third party (played by Sofia Andres) enters their lives. The series is produced by Star Creatives and ABS-CBN Studios.

Prime Video also bankrolled “Honor Thy Mother,” a collaboration between ABS-CBN and GMA, with production by Dreamscape Entertainment. The series follows a CEO (played by Sharon Cuneta) and her estranged daughter (played by Barbie Forteza) who must unite to survive a deadly conspiracy, exploring mother-daughter reconciliation through corporate intrigue and redemption

“Linlang” stars Paulo Avelino and Kim Chui are reuniting on the streaming platform for another Prime Original, “Kopino,” where they play childhood sweethearts torn apart by fate who reunite in Korea’s corporate world. The series aims to show the “Kopino” experience — children of Korean and Filipino parents seeking family recognition.

GMA’s primetime leading lady Marian Rivera stars in the political thriller “Behind Closed Doors” as a sharp-tongued radio announcer whose secret affair with the Philippine President (played by her real-life husband Dingdong Dantes) is exposed, making her the prime suspect in his assassination. This puts her on a collision course with his daughter (portrayed by Jillian Ward).

Lastly, “LOL: Last One Laughing Philippines” returns for a second season with Vice Ganda as host. The comedy competition series challenges 10 comedians to make each other laugh while keeping straight faces themselves — the last one standing wins. Season 1 became one of Prime Video’s most-watched titles in the Philippines.

    K-Drama and the NBA

Prime Video also announced three new Korean titles set to premiere in the second half of 2026.

“A Love Other Than Yours” stars Seo Kangjun (“Boyfriend on Demand”), Ahn Eun-jin (“Hospital Playlist”), Lee Joo Ahn (“True Beauty”) and Jo Aram (“Doctor Cha”) in a grounded romance about a couple in a 10-year relationship forced to confront whether to move forward with marriage or let each other go.

“Final Table” (working title) features global sensation Ahn Hyo-seop (“KPop Demon Hunters,” “Business Proposal”). The series is set against the high-stakes backdrop of “The Table: K-Chef 2026” — a competition to crown the world’s finest Korean chef. It follows Kang Han, an overseas-based chef who joins the tournament representing the restaurant Familia following an unexpected turn of events.

“Nine to Six” stars Park Min Young (“Marry My Husband”), Yook Sung Jae (“The Golden Spoon”), and Go Soo (“Missing: The Other Side”) in an office romance. When workaholic deputy manager Kang I-ji meets warm-hearted intern Han Sun-woo in an automobile company, they discover in each other what they’re missing — navigating love, career, family, and social pressure to find their own balance between independence and connection.

Meanwhile, basketball fans can also catch live 2026 NBA Playoffs and Finals, exclusive on Prime Video.
