ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has launched the country’s first liquid cooling showroom, introducing advanced cooling technology amid the Philippines’ rising heat index and growing demand for efficient data center solutions.

The showroom, named as the AI Synergy Lab, showcases liquid cooling technology designed to support the increasing demands of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads.

Liquid cooling, which uses fluid-based systems to dissipate heat more efficiently than traditional air cooling, is gaining traction globally as data centers seek to optimize energy consumption and improve system performance.

The Philippines is seeing increased investments in its data center industry, with companies like STT GDC expanding their presence through projects such as STT Cavite, set to launch in October 2025.

“With the right focus, the right management, the right expertise, and the right collaboration, you actually execute a world-class levels here,” Carlo Malana, CEO of STT GDC Philippines told reporters after its debut event yesterday at the STT GDC facility in Makati City.

As an example, Malana used its data center in Fairview, Quezon City, which is expected to provide 124 megawatts of capacity to serve growing enterprise and hyperscale demands.

Moreover, the country has been positioning itself as a competitive player in the regional data center market, especially as land and power constraints limit expansion in neighboring Singapore.

Southeast Asia as a cloud battleground

With STT GDC’s presence in Asia, the region has become a key battleground for cloud dominance, with major tech players vying for market share.

Malana also addressed concerns over potential supply chain disruptions due to geopolitical tensions, particularly regarding the US-China trade restrictions on semiconductor manufacturing.

“You know, I think it’s too early to tell how it’s going to be impacting us.There could be positive as well as negative impacts, and you don’t know how well it balances out,” Malana said.

“Some of these geopolitical things may drive more business here because that business used to be in the US, and they don’t want it there anymore. So they’re going to look elsewhere.”

While uncertainties remain, Malana noted that businesses are adaptable and will find ways to adjust.

“As the geopolitical situations evolve, things don’t move that quickly in terms of manufacturing and supply chains,” he said.

“But the important part is that we have good partners, diversity in partners, and the ability to serve both sides of the geopolitical fence,” he added.

    Philippines’ strategic location

Companies like STT GDC see potential in the country’s strategic location, emerging digital economy, and infrastructure.

While the Philippines continues to attract data center investments, discussions around data localization and sovereignty remain critical.

The country currently has fewer regulatory policies on data storage compared to other markets, but industry leaders like STT GDC, anticipate further developments in policy.

Malana believes that with the right regulatory support, investments in advanced data center technologies, such as liquid cooling, will help strengthen the country’s position as a preferred data hosting location in the region.

“I think that’s one of the things that’s going to be interesting as we talk about the evolution of the space and how competitive we are,” the STT GDC head added.

The liquid cooling showroom is now open for industry stakeholders, enterprises, and government representatives interested in exploring next-generation data center solutions.

Furthermore, STT GDC Philippines has shifted to fully renewable energy for its data center operations.

The transition is expected to reduce the company’s environmental footprint while complementing the efficiency of liquid cooling technology.
