You can now reorder photos in your published Instagram carousel posts

Imagine this: It’s time for your monthly photo dump. You want your followers to see where you’ve been and what you’ve done all packed into one single carousel. However, when you clicked ‘post,’ you noticed that the order is not right. Fixing it meant deleting the post and starting over.

Instagram is giving you a chance to edit and not lose the “likes.”

The platform has introduced a new feature that allows users to rearrange photos and videos within a carousel post, even after it has been published.

The update, recently shared by Instagram’s Adam Mosseri, removes a long-standing limitation where the order of images in a carousel was fixed once posted. With the new feature, users can go back into a published post and edit it without losing existing engagement.

    To reorder a carousel:

    1. Open a published post
    2. Tap the three-dot menu
    3. Select “Edit”
    4. Long-press on a photo or video
    5. Drag it to a new position within the carousel
    6. Save the changes.

The feature is useful for those who use carousels for storytelling and visual breakdowns, where sequence matters. A stronger opening image, for example, can be moved to the front to improve first impressions, while misplaced photos can be corrected without reuploading.

Carousels have become a popular format on Instagram where users share multiple images in a single post.
