Honor X8d Review: Redefining the ‘budget’ line

A relatively cheap smartphone with a large battery capacity and a naturally vibrant and sharp screen? Count me in.

Nowadays, a cheaper device sometimes means compromises, but the Honor X8d proves that you don’t have to. In an era where flagship prices are soaring toward the stratosphere, Honor keeps it simple with endurance, display quality, and design.

After putting the device through the wringer on a three-day trip, it became clear to me that the X8d is more than an entry-level contender; it can go toe-to-toe with some of the most popular options for smartphones today.

    Display

The X8d features a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 3000 nits. This makes it one of the clearest screens in its class, ensuring that even under direct, harsh midday sunlight, your content remains perfectly legible.

For those of us who spend hours reviewing photos or scrolling late into the night, the inclusion of 3840Hz risk-free PWM dimming is a much-needed feature. This TUV Rheinland-certified flicker-free technology significantly reduces eye fatigue.

Combined with ultra-narrow bezels, the display offers an immersive experience that feels much more expensive than the price tag suggests.

    Performance

Designed for longevity, both for daily and long-term use, the 7,000 mAh battery is what caught my attention . On a 7-hour bus trip, I used only 26% of the battery while running apps like YouTube and Spotify continuously.

By the end of the week, I still had over 50% battery life, validating Honor’s three-day battery life claim. Given this performance, their assertion that the battery remains healthy for six years seems entirely plausible.

In terms of speed, the Snapdragon 6s is complemented by HONOR RAM Turbo, doubling the 8GB of physical RAM by utilizing its 512GB base storage. This ensures that multitasking across apps remains smooth.

The inclusion of the Instant AI Button features offers one-tap access to smart commands and screen suggestions, effectively streamlining the way you navigate your most-used tools.

    Camera

The triple-camera setup, led by a 108MP Ultra-Clear main sensor, delivers sharp, high-resolution shots that are ready for any trip. For the social-media-savvy, the AI Editing Retouch features help polish portraits with a single tap.

The X8d enhances the visual experience with a boosted audio system offering 300% stereo volume. This ensures loud, clear sound for everything from interview clips to series, making the device a significant category leader.

For me, the HONOR X8d is one of the most promising smartphones within its PHP 15,999 price bracket.

The X8d eases your worries by addressing the three biggest pain points for modern smartphone users: battery life, screen visibility, and durability.

By packing 16GB of effective RAM and a 7,000 mAh battery into a 7.5mm body, HONOR has created a tool that feels less like a budget compromise and more like a high-performance essential.

If you’re someone who needs a phone that can keep up with a 72-hour grind without needing a wall outlet, the X8d is currently in a league of its own.
