Amazon is turning its Alexa voice assistant into an AI-powered audio generator with the launch of “Alexa Podcasts,” a feature that creates customized podcast-style episodes based on topics requested by users.
The feature is part of Alexa+, Amazon’s upgraded generative AI assistant currently available in the United States.
Users can ask Alexa to create podcast episodes about nearly any subject, from history and sports to hobbies and current events. The system then generates an audio discussion narrated by AI-generated hosts.
According to Amazon, users can also adjust the direction and length of the episode before it is generated. Finished episodes are delivered through the Alexa app and Echo devices.
The rollout places Amazon alongside other technology companies experimenting with AI-generated audio content. Google’s NotebookLM popularized AI-created “podcast” summaries in 2024, while Microsoft later added similar features to Copilot and Edge.
Amazon said the feature draws information from more than 200 partner publications, including Reuters, The Associated Press, The Washington Post, and Politico. The company is also exploring personalized AI news briefings and podcast episodes based on users’ uploaded documents.
However, AI-generated podcasts have also raised concerns over accuracy, authenticity, and the growing amount of synthetic online content flooding the internet.
Alexa Podcasts is currently rolling out only to users in the United States. Amazon has yet to announce availability for the Philippines or other Asian markets.
