Google is adding a wave of creator-focused features to Android 17, with the company leaning heavily into AI-assisted content creation both in mobile editing and social media tools.
The update, announced ahead of Google I/O 2026, includes upgrades that will be most useful for creators who shoot, edit, and post directly from their phones, an area long dominated by Apple devices.
Here are some of the biggest additions coming to Android 17:
1. Instagram on Android is finally getting more attention
Google says Instagram on Android will gain better support for advanced camera features that were previously inconsistent across devices. That includes Ultra HDR photo support, which helps preserve brighter highlights and richer contrast in images while still remaining compatible with standard displays.
Instagram is also getting built-in support for night mode photography and video stabilization on Android. Creators can now shoot smoother videos and brighter low-light content directly inside the app instead of switching to separate camera apps first.
The company is also improving Instagram’s experience on Android foldables and tablets, with layouts optimized for larger screens and multitasking.
2. AI video editing tools are coming directly to mobile apps
Android 17 adds support for AI-powered editing features inside apps like Instagram Edits.
One feature can upscale low-resolution videos to make them look sharper before posting. Another can isolate voices and reduce unwanted background sounds like traffic, wind or loud crowds, which are useful for vloggers and event coverage recorded outdoors.
Instead of relying on separate desktop software, the processing happens directly on-device.
3. “Screen Reactions” simplifies reaction-style content
Google is introducing a feature called “Screen Reactions,” which allows users to record themselves with the front-facing camera while simultaneously recording on-screen content.
The feature is designed for reaction videos, gaming commentary, tutorials and live responses commonly seen on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
Before the update, creators often needed third-party apps or editing software to achieve the same effect.
4. Quick Share is becoming more cross-platform
Google is expanding Quick Share beyond the Android ecosystem. The updated version will enable users to transfer files more easily to iPhones and other devices through QR codes and more compatibility support. Instead of dealing with cables or uploading files to cloud storage first, users can quickly send photos, videos, and documents between nearby devices.
5. Gboard’s new AI feature cleans up voice typing
Android 17 introduces a Gboard tool called “Rambler” to improve voice dictation. The feature automatically removes filler words like “uh,” “um” and repeated phrases while reorganizing spoken sentences into cleaner text. It is developed for users who rely on voice typing for captions, emails, notes, or scripts.
6. Android redesigns the emojis
Android 17 is introducing “Noto 3D,” a redesigned emoji set with more dimensional and expressive visuals.
The update replaces Android’s flatter emoji style with designs that look closer to animated stickers and modern messaging app aesthetics.
