The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has ordered the temporary blocking of the video game GoreBox following the fatal school shooting in Tacloban City that left three students dead and several others injured.
In a statement, the CICC said the move is a precautionary measure while authorities investigate whether the game may have influenced the suspects involved in the incident.
According to the investigation of the Philippine National Police, one of the students linked to the shooting was an active player of GoreBox.
The shooting occurred at San Jose National High School on June 22, prompting a nationwide discussion on youth violence, online content and mental health. Authorities have yet to establish a direct connection between the game and the attack.
GoreBox is a sandbox-style game developed by Swedish independent studio F²Games. Unlike traditional story-driven games, GoreBox emphasizes player freedom, enabling users to experiment with custom scenarios and combat mechanics.
On its website, F²Games describes itself as a studio specializing in horror, gore and action titles designed to immerse players.
The game has gained popularity among younger audiences for its open-ended gameplay, though it has also drawn criticism for its graphic depictions of violence, including blood effects and dismemberment mechanics.
The CICC said the temporary ban will remain in effect while investigators assess possible factors surrounding the Tacloban shooting.
