Guinness World Record for longest travel livestream is in PH

A Philippine telecommunication company broke the Guinness World Record for the longest travel livestream, which covered 75 kilometers, from Bustos, Bulacan to Rizal Park in Manila with the duration of 26 hours and 15 minutes.

TNT, the value brand of Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), gathered 33 content creators to join its Petmaloop Challenge, which they had to complete by using one TNT-powered smartphone, passing it from one user to another like a relay race from Nov. 18 to 19.

“You don’t win a Guinness World Book of Records everyday. So, this is once in a blue moon,” said Alex Caeg, the Senior Vice President & Head of the Consumer Sales Group at PLDT and Smart, during the award celebration yesterday, Nov. 22, at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.

“It’s not something we imitated, it is not something we saw elsewhere. It’s something that we came up with. It’s an original idea. It was a concept. Then we said, “Saya, Travel, Digital,” Caeg added.

The challenge, which started in Davao city last Nov. 4, passed through cities and provinces in Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon, without interruption.

Nineteen provinces nationwide, including Davao City; Cagayan De Oro City; Pagadian City; Dipolog City, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Aparri, Cagayan, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Nueva Ecija; Bustos, Bulacan, and Manila were passed through during the challenge.

Participants uploaded their content for the challenge on the Petmaloop Challenge’s Tiktok account (@petmaloop).

The challenge exceeded the minimum requirement and fulfilled the criteria set by the Guinness World Records which consists of the focus on real-time travel experiences, site and cultural location significance, accessible livestream, multiple venues, and no gaps and interruptions.

“Winning the award is just the manifestation of the kind of service that we deploy to our customers and, of course, have fun while doing it,” Caeg said.

Earlier this year, TNT was recognized as the country’s leading mobile brand while Smart was labeled as the country’s leading mobile group, according to an internal research by NielsenIQ, in partnership with Smart.

Smart was also recognized by Ookla, the global leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence, as the fastest mobile network in the country for the first quarter of 2023.
