(Editor’s Note: Philippine STAR photojournalist Ryan Baldemor reached out to me after the launch of the Fujifilm X-T30 iii. Apparently in a department of Canon photographers, he was the only one shooting on Fuji. After a few back and forths with Fujifilm, we were able to borrow the new camera for a test run.)

The Fujifilm X-T30 III proves to be a compact but reliable tool for fast-paced news coverage. Its improved autofocus performance locks onto subjects quickly, even in chaotic and low-light situations common in breaking news.

The 26MP sensor delivers sharp, clean images with Fujifilm’s signature color science that works well straight out of camera-helpful when working against tight deadlines.

Despite its small body, the camera handles confidently during long coverages. The 8-fps burst shooting is fast enough to capture crucial moments in protests, press briefings, and fast-moving assignments.

Every second matters in photojournalism, and the X-T30 III keeps up with the action. Low-light performance is also dependable, giving you usable images even in challenging conditions.

Over two weeks of daily news coverage, the X-T30 III proved to be a capable backup body for a working photojournalist. However, if you have larger hands, the compact size might feel a bit too small.

Adding an L-plate or handgrip significantly improves handling and comfort. Battery life may also feel limited—especially if you’re used to the X-T4 or X-T5-so carrying spare batteries is a must.

When covering news, we follow certain rules—such as avoiding heavy color manipulation or overediting. The X-T30 III delivers excellent JPEGs straight out of the camera.

Reducing the need for post-processing and helping you meet deadlines faster. Fujifilm’s renowned color science continues to shine in real-world coverage.
Outside the newsroom

When it comes to street photography, the Fujifilm X-T30 III is a great companion because of its compact size—especially when paired with small prime lenses.

It’s discreet, allowing you to blend into the scene without drawing too much attention to your camera.

The X-T30 III isn’t just for professional assignments. It also shines during personal outings with family and friends, particularly on weekends.

It delivers beautiful images while remaining so lightweight that you hardly notice you’re carrying it. Its portability makes it a perfect travel-friendly camera for everyday shooting.
