iOS 27 brings new AI-powered editing tools to Photos

Apple introduced a suite of AI-powered editing tools for the Photos app at WWDC26, bringing Apple Intelligence-powered features to iOS 27 that allow users to enhance and rework photos directly on their iPhones.

PhilSTAR Tech listed some of the biggest additions coming to Photos in iOS 27:

    1. Upgraded Clean Up tool

Apple is upgrading its existing Clean Up feature while introducing a new tool called Enhance.

Clean Up allows users to remove unwanted objects and distractions from a photo, such as people in the background, clutter or other elements that may draw attention away from the main subject. The updated version is designed to better preserve surrounding details, making edits appear more natural.

    2. Extend expands photos beyond their original borders

One of the most notable additions is Extend, a generative AI tool that can create new visual content beyond the edges of a photo.

The feature allows users to widen an image, add more space around a subject or adjust framing after a picture has already been captured. Users can expand the frame and let AI generate additional content that blends with the original image.

    3. Spatial Reframing helps rescue imperfect shots

Apple is also introducing Spatial Reframing, a feature that allows users to alter the composition of a photo after it has been taken.

The tool can reposition subjects within the frame and adjust the overall composition, giving users more flexibility when working with photos that may have been poorly framed during capture. Instead of deleting an otherwise good image because of an awkward crop or positioning, users can make corrections after the fact.

Combined with Extend, Spatial Reframing offers users a second chance to improve photos that might otherwise remain unused.

Apple says the features are designed to make advanced editing more accessible, allowing everyday users to perform tasks that previously required professional software or technical expertise.
