The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has placed video game Roblox under strict monitoring, issuing a 30-day ultimatum for the company to address allegations of illegal activities involving Filipino minors.

Authorities said the platform, which is popular for both kids and adults, is being exploited by threat actors, including individuals engaged in child exploitation and illicit trade. The agency warned that Roblox’s highly interactive environment may be used to lure minors, shift conversations to private channels, and expose them to harmful or coercive content.

“If Roblox fails to respond, we will coordinate with telecommunications companies to implement a ban. This time, enforcement will be more extensive,” said Renato “Aboy” Paraiso, Undersecretary of the CICC.

He added that the agency will also engage Google and Apple to enforce geo-fencing through their app marketplaces, preventing downloads and use within Philippine territory.

The proposed enforcement goes beyond a typical site block, according to the media advisory released over the weekend. Local telcos may be directed to restrict access to Roblox servers, while app stores could remove or disable the platform nationwide. The CICC said similar restrictions have been imposed on Roblox in countries such as Qatar, Iran, and Turkey over safety concerns.

The CICC is coordinating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to prepare for a potential nationwide block if the company fails to engage within the deadline.

While enforcement actions are being evaluated, the agency urged parents to remain vigilant. Warning signs include strangers requesting personal photos, offering free in-game currency, or encouraging children to move conversations outside the platform.

Suspected incidents can be reported via the national cybercrime hotline 1326 or through the CICC’s official social media channels.
