The Philippines is now in cooperation with United States and Japan in enhancing the country’s cybersecurity and digitalization.

The agreement between the three nations was held during the Singapore International Cyber Week 2024 (SICW 2024), on October 18.

The dialogue was co-chaired by U.S. Ambassador at Large for Cyberspace and Digital Policy Nathaniel C. Fick, Japan’s Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Policy Bureau Yukio Saita, and Department of Information and Communication Technology Undersecretary Jeffrey Ian C. Dy.

Officials from the three nations discussed partnership in the cyberspace, including cybersecurity capacity building, workforce development, maritime cybersecurity, and enhancing information-sharing mechanisms.

The dialogue also focused on opportunities for digital capacity building, enabling trusted cross-border data flows, and advancing the Global Cross-Border Privacy Rules ((CBPR) Forum.

The Global CBPR Forum was established in 2022 to create a platform for its member states to “to support the free flow of data and effective data protection and privacy globally.”

Currently, there are 13 participating  jurisdictions in the forum, namely, Australia, Canada, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, and the United States

Moreover, the trilateral meeting in SICW 2024 highlighted the three nations’ efforts in strengthening regional cooperation in addressing evolving cyber threats with long-lasting technological solutions together.

Last July, US and the Philippines held its first cyber-digital policy dialogue, reaffirming ithe countries’ commitment to promoting a secure and reliable internet, information and communication technology ecosystem.
