Women in the Philippines are using Google’s Gemini AI assistant more than men, making the country the only one in Southeast Asia where female users outnumber male users on the platform, according to Google’s first Gemini Report: Southeast Asia 2026.
The report looked at how people in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam use Gemini. While the AI assistant is popular with both men and women in the Philippines, Google found that Filipino women generate more prompts than men, a trend not seen in the other countries covered in the study.
Google did not explain why Filipino women are leading Gemini use. However, the report suggests that many are using the AI assistant for practical, everyday tasks instead of simply trying out the technology.
Among Filipinos, creative work is the most common use for Gemini, accounting for 24% of prompts. Another 17% are for writing tasks, such as drafting emails, creating content, improving documents, or polishing ideas.
Filipinos also use Gemini to help with work and career decisions. According to Google, the Philippines has the highest share of job-related prompts in the region, with users asking for help with job searches, resumes, interviews, and other career-related questions.
The report also highlights Gemini’s growing role in the country’s business process outsourcing (BPO) industry. Customer service professionals use the AI assistant to draft replies, prepare customer support content, and create marketing materials. The Philippines records three times more customer support-related prompts than the regional average.
“We are so proud to see that Gemini has become the AI of choice for many users across Southeast Asia,” said Sapna Chadha, vice president for Southeast Asia and South Asia Frontier, Google. “What makes this region so remarkable is how naturally it has been woven into daily life. People aren’t just adapting to Gemini, they are using it on their own terms — in the ways they prefer, in the languages they speak, and in situations that fit their daily lives.”
Google said active Gemini users across the region have more than doubled over the past year, making the region the fastest-growing market for the app. The company said the growth is driven by Southeast Asia’s young, mobile-first population and Gemini’s ability to understand local languages.
The report also found that nearly three out of four Gemini requests in the region come from mobile devices. More than four in 10 prompts use voice, photos, or videos instead of text, showing that many people now interact with AI in more natural ways.
Google has also introduced new Gemini features in the Philippines, including in-app shopping that allows users to compare products and prices without leaving the chat. The company is also rolling out Gemini Spark, an AI agent that can complete tasks across Gmail, Docs, and other Google Workspace apps for Google AI Ultra subscribers.
