Users across the Philippines reported issues accessing Facebook, Messenger and Instagram on Friday night, June 12, with outage reports surging on monitoring platform Downdetector.
Data from Downdetector showed a sharp spike in reports beginning shortly before 10 p.m. Facebook recorded more than 24,000 reports at around 9:53 p.m., far above its normal baseline of two reports.
Messenger also saw a significant increase, reaching nearly 12,000 reports by 10:11 p.m., while Instagram logged more than 1,500 reports at around 9:56 p.m.
Affected users reported difficulties logging in, sending and receiving messages, refreshing content and accessing certain features on the Meta-owned platforms.
Many turned to alternative social media sites to confirm whether the services were experiencing a widespread outage.
As of writing, Meta had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage or providing an estimated timeline for restoration. With reports from Dawn Solano.
