While j-hope lit up the stage at the Mall of Asia Arena with back-to-back sold-out shows, Smart Communications, Inc. was busy pulling off a major performance of its own. This time in the realm of mobile tech.

During the April 12–13 “Hope on the Stage” concert, Smart didn’t just bring the hype. It showcased its next-gen 5G Standalone (SA) network in real-world conditions. For K-pop fans in a packed arena, that meant more than just smooth selfies and TikToks. It meant experiencing one of the most advanced mobile internet setups in the country to date.

What is 5G SA, and why should you care?

Unlike older mobile network setups that rely partly on 4G, 5G SA runs on a fully 5G core. This lets telcos like Smart tap into a tech called “network slicing”, basically a way to carve out dedicated bandwidth for specific needs. Imagine a VIP lane just for your phone’s data, even in a jam-packed arena where everyone’s live-streaming, posting, or messaging.

And Smart took it up a notch. Phones connected to their SA network at the concert even had their network ID display “J-Hope Concert” on screen. Subtle flex, but a cool one.

SMART’s standalone 5G network features j-hope concert on the signal ID.

    Real fans, real experiences

For Elaine, a university student and first-time concertgoer, Smart 5G SA was a lifeline. “My parents asked for hourly updates,” she shared. “Thanks to Smart, I could send them Viber messages and even post videos live on TikTok and IG without lag.”

Nic, a young professional, echoed that relief. “I’ve been to shows where the signal just disappeared. This time, it felt good to know my family could reach me if anything happened.”

    Fan service, the Smart way

Smart wasn’t just about the tech, it was also all heart. Months before j-hope took the stage, Smart hosted exclusive presales and gave away tickets in a special raffle, making sure more fans could get in on the action.

On concert day, ARMYs flocked to the Smart 5G Max booth, styled after the Sweet Dreams pop-up in New York—to snap photos and live their best fangirl/fanboy lives.

    More Max moments ahead

The 5G SA demo follows Smart’s recent rollout of 5G Max and TNT’s Max Saya 30, a data pack with prioritized connectivity. It’s all part of the telco’s push to bring future-proof tech to the mainstream.

“We’re unlocking immersive digital experiences meant to enrich the lives of our subscribers,” said Debbie Hu, Smart’s Network Operations Head.

So the next time you’re at a concert, a convention, or just in a crowd, Smart’s betting their network will stand out—just like your favorite idol.
