REVIEW: The DJI Power 1000 Mini packs a punch

Today’s portable power station market is filled with bulky, single-purpose devices that feel like oversized power banks. I know because we would often use them during blackouts in the province. While they’re convenient in those times, you could always tell there was something lacking about them.

So with the DJI Power 1000 Mini, I only wanted to do one thing: push it to its limits. While blackouts are not as frequent in the city, I tested what it would be like to have one by living with it for three days and running the devices I use daily at home.

Don’t let the mini tag fool you; this thing weighs 11.5kg, and it has every right to. While the weight might be a burden to some, its size is just right for fitting on our kitchen countertop, fueling the air fryer, the coffee maker, and our electric stove whenever I want hot food.

If I were to describe its size without using measurements, it’s roughly the size of a car battery, but far slicker and cleaner, with built-in handles that make moving it around the house effortless.

The Power 1000 Mini holds an impressive 1,008Wh of battery capacity when fully charged, giving users plenty of headroom for prolonged use during a blackout and providing peace of mind that it will last during emergency situations.

    Your device’s stealthy guardian

The standout highlight for anyone living in areas prone to erratic grid power is its Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) mode.

Operating in pass-through mode, it activates instantly during power outages. Its key feature is a sub-10ms switchover time; when I pulled the wall plug during testing with a 500-watt PC and a 24-inch monitor under active load, it seamlessly simulated a sudden grid failure.

The immediate power transfer kept all connected devices running seamlessly without rebooting. This feature provides crucial protection against voltage sags and blackouts for critical home networking hardware, saving users from waiting for traditional generators.

    Built For Convenience

Where the Power 1000 Mini truly sets itself apart from standard power-station brands is the density of practical quality-of-life features built right into the chassis. One of my favorite details is the integrated 100W retractable USB-C cable.

You don’t need to hunt through your bags for loose charging cords just to top up a phone, drone battery, or laptop; you simply pull the cable, plug in, and let it zip back neatly into the body when you’re done.

Recharging is streamlined to save space and reduce cable clutter. Instead of relying on bulky external power adapter bricks for car or solar charging like older stations, the Power 1000 Mini integrates an MPPT controller and charging circuitry directly into the unit.

For emergency visibility during dark nights, DJI also included a dimmable LED light right on the front housing. A quick double-press triggers an SOS signaling mode, while holding the power button allows you to dial in your exact brightness preference to light up an entire room.
