Students today are no longer just in need of the family computer, or the older brother’s laptop. They need their personal workhorse for their daily tasks for school projects and homeworks.
This is where tablets come in.
Luckily, we have a lot of the “budget-friendly” tablets in the market, ready for choosing!
For this review, we have the recently launched Honor Pad X8a.
We have been using it for two weeks, and here are the top three features we like about the device.
1. A battery life that lasts for more than two days
The Honor Pad X8a has an ultra large battery of 8300 mAh.
To test it out, I did light tasks like surfing through social media surfing, reading articles, watching Netflix, and playing music on Spotify. So far, it lasts me two to three days before needing a recharge.
However, the charger is not a fast charger, so it does take me an hour or two to get it back up to a hundred.
It’s a long wait time. Yet, on the brighter side, it does not heat up easily, even after three to five hours of continuous work.
2. A display good enough for reading materials
Although still LCD, the 11-inch display with a 90hz refresh rate isone of the things a student would appreciate. It’s good for online meetings or for viewing powerpoint presentations with a group. Aside from that, it already has a multi-screen function, which helps connect your phone to the tablet. From there, you can control your phone’s screen.
It also has an e-book reading mode. For students who prefer reading notes and textbooks from a tablet, this feature can help save your eyes from straining.
3. Quad-speakers powered by Honor’s Histen algorithm
The tablet has four speakers, which are essential for online learning for students. Additionally, it has Honor’s Histen algorithm, which automatically helps filter out surrounding noises when in an online meeting or a group call.
However, during the time we’ve used this tablet for watching movies on Netflix or on YouTube, we could say that these speakers lack bass makingit sounds a bit tinny. Also, it does not have any jack, sobetter have bluetooth earbuds or headphones when trying to join in a call.
It does not have the best speaker for a tablet, but it’s also not the worst.
A Christmas gift or a maybe-next-year gift?
The Honor Pad X8a only costs P7,999 and with the 10.10 sale coming up, you might just get it even for less.
This is definitely a fitting gift for any hardworking student this Christmas.
However, with a Snapdragon 680 chipset, this tablet will definitely have its limitations but it can be overlooked as this tablet already feels very premium.
It has a glass front, an aluminum frame, and aluminum back. Also, it does not feel heavy to carry as it only weighs 495 grams.
The AI Camera can also handle some non-heavy camera tasks like taking portrait shots and video recording up to 1080p at 30fps. It’s packed with a 5MP main and selfie camera, which are both alright for any quick snaps.
In terms of storage, this tablet loaned to us has 128GB and 4GB RAM. If you have fewer files to store for work or for school, you can opt for the 64GB variant.
Overall, this tablet can be used for tasks that are not too intense: like reading school notes, watching films, or just scrolling through social media.
If you’re looking for ways to show your appreciation for the student in your family this upcoming Christmas season, we’re putting this tablet on your radar.
