Apple has introduced the MacBook Neo, a new laptop priced at $599 that lowers the cost of entering the Mac lineup. The price is far below the roughly $1,000 starting price of earlier MacBook Air models, making it the company’s most affordable MacBook.

The MacBook Neo features an aluminum body and a 13-inch Liquid Retina display designed to deliver sharp images and bright colors. It will be available in four colors: blush, indigo, silver, and citrus.

The laptop runs on Apple’s A18 Pro chip, which helps power everyday activities such as browsing the internet, watching videos, editing photos, and using apps. Apple said the device can be up to 50% faster in tasks like web browsing and up to three times faster in certain artificial intelligence (AI) tasks, such as applying effects to photos, compared with some PCs powered by Intel Core Ultra 5 processors.

Apple said the MacBook Neo can run for up to 16 hours on a single charge, allowing users to use the laptop throughout the day without needing to plug it in.

For video calls and media, the laptop includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones, and dual speakers with Spatial Audio support. The device also features Apple’s Magic Keyboard and a large Multi-Touch trackpad that supports gesture controls.

MacBook Neo runs macOS Tahoe, which comes with built-in apps such as Messages, Pages, Calendar, and Safari. It also supports Apple Intelligence features and works closely with the iPhone, allowing users to send messages, move files, and continue tasks across devices.

The MacBook Neo is available for pre-order in the United States and will be available beginning March 11. It starts at $599, with education pricing starting at $499.
