Acer joins the gaming handheld fray with the Nitro Blaze 7

At the recently concluded pre-game presscon at IFA 2024, Acer went ahead of everyone else and unveiled their complete line of devices for 2024 and onward. The Nitro Blaze 7 is one such device as it signals Acer’s entry into the handheld gaming market. The Nitro Blaze 7 is powered by AMD Ryzen 8040 series processors with 39 TOPS, up to 2TB of storage, and 16GB LPDDR5x memory.

We’re looking at a device with 144Hz refresh rate on a 7″ screen with AMD Radeon 780M graphics. This is more or less the equivalent of a GeForce 1060 with better battery life so you should be able to run most games like Call of Duty and other AAA titles at decent settings.

During our hands on, we noted that the device has two USB C ports, located at the top and bottom of the device. That would mean you won’t be able to prop it upright in desktop mode if you intend to keep it plugged (since one USB port will be dedicated to an external display or a USB hub). It’s good to note that the microSD slot is located on the lower right side of the device, which is far from the exhaust (upper left). They’ve learned the lesson from ASUS’ mistakes with the original ROG Ally.

We’re excited to know more about this device’s pricepoint as its competitors running Windows 11 have swayed between the mid 40’s to high 50’s. Acer has always found ways to go the budget route when comparing similar specs with its competitors. Only time will tell.
