After nearly three years without a new Mate device, Huawei is bringing back its flagship smartphone line to the Philippines with the Huawei Mate 80 Pro, set to launch on April 17.
The Mate series has long been known for introducing major smartphone innovations. Earlier models brought features such as AI-powered processors, ultra-wide cameras, gesture controls, and even satellite communication. With the Mate 80 Pro, Huawei is doubling down on photography, durability, and performance.
The Huawei Mate 80 Pro has a new camera system designed to deliver more natural-looking photos. It uses a 50MP main sensor that captures more light for better detail, especially in low-light conditions. A 48MP telephoto macro lens supports 4x optical zoom and close-up shots from as near as 5 cm.
Its AI Composition feature trained on over 500,000 professional photos, which the system analyzes scenes in real time and suggests framing adjustments directly on the screen. This helps users take balanced, professional-looking shots without needing advanced photography skills.
The Mate 80 Pro also introduces a new “Dual Space Ring” design, with a symmetrical camera layout forming an infinity-inspired look. It comes in Gold and Black, using a vegan fiber back that is both lightweight and resistant to scratches and stains.
The Huawei Mate 80 Pro uses second-generation Kunlun Glass for improved drop protection and features a reinforced structure to resist bending. It is rated IP68 and IP69, meaning it can handle water, dust, and even high-pressure sprays.
Inside, the device packs a 5,750mAh battery, which Huawei says can last up to 30 hours of video playback. It also offers fast charging reaching 51% in just 15 minutes using 100W wired charging.
To keep performance stable, especially during gaming or multitasking, the Mate 80 Pro uses a new cooling system designed to prevent overheating.
For apps, users can access popular services like Gmail, YouTube, Facebook, and local apps such as GCash and BPI through Huawei’s AppGallery.
