You’ve seen it. I’ve seen it. We’ve all seen it.
This past week, we’ve seen videos upon videos of drop and smash test of the HONOR X9b 5G all over the internet.

We’ve even had our own version.

The HONOR X9b 5G is a beautiful phone
With the back of the phone wrapped in velvety vegan leather, and its 6.78-inch AMOLED Curved Display, you can add the HONOR X9b 5G to the list of good-looking phones in the market. Adding to it’s classy, sophisticated look is the watch-inspired rear camera design which houses it’s triple camera system.
Lightweight at only 185g, the phone ensures a comfortable weight in your hands while in use.
The HONOR X9b 5G is an adequate phone for your every day needs
With it’s Qualcomm® Snapdragon® 6 Gen 1 (4nm) processor and Octa-core CPU, you can be assured that your every day smart phone needs will be met. You can game a little bit on this phone, with Honkai Star Rail working well with very slight stuttering. Less graphic intensive games, such as Cookie Run Kingdom and NIKKE!, ran with no problem at all.
With it’s 5800mAh battery, I was able to do a lot of things with the phone, before I had to actually plug in to charge. Taking photos, recording videos, a little bit of game testing and even watching Netflix at the end of the day, I was left with a good 50% of battery life.
My favorite feature of the HONOR X9b 5G, I have to say, is the camera.
I was pleasantly surprised with how the pictures I took in low light and in the dark came out.
Makes for some pretty dramatic shots, right?
The macro and portrait shots are pretty impressive as well.
Content creators will be pleased to know that the HONOR X9b is a very suitable weapon of choice for producing content.
The Moment of Truth
Alright. It’s time.
Drumroll, please!
Unfortunately, the phone that we got did NOT survive the 5 feet drop test.
Alright, before we start bringing out the pitch forks and going on a strike, remember that drop tests survivability rates are not always 100%.
Drop tests are done for a reason. In a drop test, it is basically simulated what happens when you ‘accidentally’ let a product, well, drop. Different drop angles and height are tested to see how tough the product is in real-life. Even the kind of surface the products will be dropped on can be a very important factor.
In my case, I dropped the phone on very uneven ground and this apparently is a HUGE factor on whether the phone can resist shock damage or not. If I dropped the phone on a smoother surface, such as a tiled floor indoor, the phone might have had a higher chance of survivability.
Alas, we did not have the luxury of testing out that theory ourselves as we were only provided with one unit. However, as seen in some of the drop tests done by other people, the phones which did come unscathed were mostly phones dropped indoors on smooth floors, such as tiles or wooden flooring.
So the takeaway is: while the Honor X9b 5G is not 100% unbreakable, it still is one of the slightly tougher phones out there. Because of its Ultra-Bounce Anti-Drop Display with SGS 5-star Overall Drop Resistance Certification, it may have a higher chance of surviving a drop.
And one piece of advice — if you’ve decided to buy the HONOR X9b 5G, try not to purposely drop the phone, just to see if it will break or not.
“While the phone comes with factory warranty, any incident of breakage due to accident or customer negligence is not covered by the standard warranty offered.”
We reached out to HONOR to ask about warranty and that was the response (so please don’t drop it!)
Oh, and another piece of advice — you can put on a screen protector AND a bumper case just to add more protection to the phone. Don’t rely on the screen alone. We’re pretty sure the screen is tougher than most, but the more protection, the merrier, right?
