SoftBoiled SEA Scramble: A must-see for the FGC of SEA

We Filipinos are a passionate bunch. Whether it’s fulfilling our dreams, reaching the top, chasing after goals, or even just belting our hearts out in karaoke, you know that deep down, there’s a Filipino out there trying their best—and sometimes even becoming the best.

Look at AK, who recently not only won Combo Breaker 2024 but also placed consistently in other global tournaments such as the Tekken World Tour and the Evolution series for Tekken. Look even further back at Filipino Champ, a prominent figure in the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 community, who won EVO at one point. What do these two gaming titans have in common? Apart from the Filipino blood running through their veins, they were given a platform to shine in their respective games. In the Softboiled SEA Scramble, we’ll be seeing some new names added to the history books of Filipino fighting games!

    What’s the Softboiled SEA Scramble?

Inspired by Sajam Slam’s success in the West, the Softboiled SEA Scramble is a tournament series pitting content creators against content creators under the watchful eye of a Fighting Game Community (FGC) pro. While the Sajam Slam series focused on Tekken 8 before transitioning to Street Fighter, the Softboiled SEA Scramble is dedicated entirely to Street Fighter 6.

What made Sajam Slam so appealing in the U.S. was the way it mixed content creators of different fighting game proficiencies and backgrounds, making for an entertaining and endearing experience. Viewership soared, with training sessions, bonding moments, and the tournament itself being watched globally.

With Softboiled SEA Scramble being the second tournament in the Content Creator Clash series, the organizers knew exactly what they were doing—especially with the Southeast Asian scene being a hidden gem in terms of both gaming prowess and entertainment.

Who’s Leading the Charge for the Softboiled SEA Scramble?

Originally headed by Cerebro Gaming for the first Content Creator Clash, the current team for the Softboiled SEA Scramble is led by Dippinbloo, or Bloo—an aspiring full-time content creator with a primary focus on fighting games. What sets him apart from other tournament organizers is how he and his local community have grown to the point where organizing an international event like this became possible!

Apart from being an avid gamer himself, Dippinbloo is also a voice in the fighting game community—both literally and figuratively—allowing him to develop the tournament in a way that elevates content creators, no matter their background, without taking anything away from the professionals.

    What to Expect?

Apart from the tournament itself, which will be streamed online over at twitch.tv/dippinbloo_ throughout February, viewers will get to witness the participants’ growth firsthand. And it’s not just the Philippines—Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia are all represented as well!

Coaching sessions might pop up in content creators’ livestreams, and if you think the pros won’t be bringing serious weight to their lessons, think again! Just look at the lineup:

    • Xian – A former EVO champion for Street Fighter.
    • Yagami – 1st place in World Warrior SEA and 3rd place in Capcom Pro Tour 2024 World Warrior: SEA Regional Finals.
    • Kaos – A Vietnamese titan, Saigon Cup 2024 champion, and Top 8 placer in the SEA leg of the Capcom Pro Tour 2024.
    • Alden PH – A Philippine fighting game legend with an almost decade-long career in multiple 2D fighters.

Are There Any Filipinos to Watch Out For?

Apart from the main organizer, Dippinbloo himself, I’m keeping my eyes on InariYoko, Goth3412, and Ashley Cloud. You might think they come from the same gaming background, but hear me out:

    • InariYoko – A variety gamer, so you know he’ll be bringing some surprises.
    • Goth3412 – A cozy streamer who recently picked up Street Fighter.
    • Ashley Cloud – An actual P-pop idol.

Between the improvements these players have shown throughout their journey in preparation for this tournament and the content they bring to the table, they’re definitely ones to watch!

    The Final Showdown

As a member of the FGC myself, seeing tournaments like these is astounding, to say the least. We have our very own international tournament series based in the Philippines, and the fact that the finals will take place on a grand scale at Geek+Pop Alpha this February 28 only adds to the prestige.

Whoever wins, it’s ultimately a victory for the Filipino Fighting Game Community—and I, for one, can’t wait to see how it all plays out!
