HONOR Play 10: A Php 6,999 phone that knows its limits

Budget phones are everywhere, but finding one that nails the basics without asking too much is harder than it looks. The HONOR Play 10 steps in at Php 6,999. No flagship claims, just a big screen, a huge battery, and the essentials.

I’ve been using this phone for a while now, and the short answer? It’s not a powerhouse, and it’s not trying to be one. But at this price, it does enough to earn a spot as one of your options.

    Design and display

The HONOR Play 10 has a simple but durable plastic build—nothing fancy, but perfectly acceptable for the price. At about 8.55 mm thin and 189 grams, it’s comfortable to hold and easy to live with.

Up front, the HONOR Play 10 packs a 6.74-inch TFT LCD display with HD+ (1600 x 720) resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate that makes scrolling feel smoother. It features a waterdrop notch that houses the 5MP selfie camera, keeping the top bezel minimal, though the bottom chin is noticeably thick.

It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button for security, dual SIM support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD card slot expandable up to 1TB.

The HONOR Play 10 is available in Midnight Black and Ocean Cyan.

    Camera

Keeping things simple by only having a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera for selfies and video calls. No extras, just the essentials.

In good lighting, the main camera delivers decent results. Colors can be dull, and detail is only what you’d expect from a budget phone. It’s enough for everyday snapshots, documents, and scenery in daylight.

Low light is where it struggles. Noise creeps in, detail drops, and night shots are best forgotten.

The 5MP selfie camera follows the same story. It’s fine for video calls and casual selfies, but don’t expect sharp details.

Video recording maxes out at 1080p at 30 fps on both rear and front cameras.

    Performance

The HONOR Play 10 runs on MediaTek Helio G81—an octa-core chip—and boots with Android 15 Go edition, the lightweight version of Android made for entry-level hardware.

For daily tasks, it performs well—scrolling through social media, watching vlogs, and texting. Android Go keeps things lean, so the phone stays usable despite the modest RAM.

As a budget phone, we must keep our expectations to a minimum. We can’t expect it to run hardcore games with max graphics. It can handle light games with ease. I played MLBB on this phone: at mid settings, the phone heats up and lags at times. At the lowest settings, things run a bit smoother.

And that’s the thing about the “Play” name—it’s just a name. This phone is built for scrolling, chatting, and streaming, not for ranked matches.

    Battery

The HONOR Play 10 packs a 5,000 mAh battery, and this is where it shines. With normal usage like scrolling, messaging, browsing, and the occasional video, it managed to last me two days on a single charge. For people like me who are always outside, having a big battery is always a plus.

Another neat feature of the HONOR Play 10 is the wired reverse charging. I sometimes use this as a backup when I forget to bring my power bank.

One downside of this phone is that it only supports up to 10W of charging. It takes almost three hours to fully go from 0 to 100. It’s a strange contradiction—freedom from the outlet, until you’re chained to one.

    Verdict

The HONOR Play 10 is perfect for people who don’t need the extra features. It’s a simple phone that does the job right for everyday usage. It doesn’t overcomplicate things; you get what you see: a decent camera for daily snapshots, a reliable battery that can last you a whole day, and a price that does not hurt your bank account. I can see parents gifting this to their child as a first phone. It’s easy to use and has all the essentials. It is also perfect for older people who only use their phone to communicate and scroll through social media occasionally.

    Price

The HONOR Play 10 is priced at Php 6,999 for the 3GB RAM + 64GB storage, available in colors Ocean Cyan and Midnight Black.
