Cinephiles and casual viewers subscribed to Amazon Prime Video in the Philippines shall anticipate a change in their expenses, following the streaming platform’s recent price hike in its monthly and annual memberships.
Prime Video will now charge its Philippine patrons P249 per month and P1,669 per year, a P100- and P279-increase from the platform’s previous deals, which were P149 and P1,390, respectively.

Compared to those paying the monthly rate for 12-straight months, movie-enjoyers who avail themselves of the latter plan may save about P1,319 per year as the monthly cost under the annual billing is estimated at P139.
The price hike took effect on Oct. 21, with telecommunication company DITO, which offers subscription to the streaming service, reflecting such adjustments via its application for those availing its standalone Prime Video access.
DITO, however, assured those who bought its standalone Prime Video plan prior to the cost climb, saying users’ subscription will stay valid until its expiration. The updated pricing will only apply to those who purchased the access on or after Oct. 21, it said.
Price comparison
Despite the rise, Prime Video’s standard subscription fees are still slightly lower than those of other streaming platforms in the country.
For instance, Disney+’s standard plans start at P289 per month and P2,290 per year, while its premium plans — which offer more features such as higher video resolution and audio quality — run from P599 per month and P4,850 per year.
HBO Max’s monthly plans sell for P149 (mobile), P269 (standard) and P399 (premium), while its yearly plans are priced at P1,040 (mobile), P1,890 (standard) and P2,790 (premium).
Monthly prices for Netflix subscribers, on the other hand, amount to P169, P279, P449 and P619, for mobile, basic, standard and premium memberships, respectively.
Amazon Prime Video became available in the Philippines in 2016. It offers a diverse range of movies and series, including blockbuster films and original ones produced by the platform, as well as live sports like the NBA games.
