    Spotify personalizes music to match your running pace

    Music streaming app Spotify is adding a new feature that aims to make running workouts easier by matching music to a user’s pace and fitness goals.

    Called Running Mode, the feature creates a personalized running session based on the type of workout, preferred music, and running tempo. Instead of searching for playlists or skipping songs, users can choose a workout style, and Spotify will build a soundtrack that fits their run.

    The feature is currently available to Spotify Premium users on iOS in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden through the app’s Fitness Hub.

    Users can choose from 25 running presets and customize the workout by selecting the exercise type, such as intervals or a steady run, setting the workout length, choosing a target beats per minute (BPM), and picking the type of music they want to hear.

    Spotify then creates a playlist that matches the selected pace, helping keep the music in sync with the workout.

    Running Mode also includes optional voice guidance in English, giving reminders and words of encouragement without interrupting the music.

    “It’s like a supportive friend running alongside you, offering timely cues and motivation without getting in the way of your music,” Spotify said in a blog post.

    The feature adds to Spotify’s growing collection of fitness content, which already includes Peloton classes and workout videos from creators. It gives users another way to combine music and exercise in one app.

    Spotify said Running Mode was developed after seeing strong interest in fitness-related requests through its earlier Prompted Playlists feature, where users asked the app to create playlists for workouts and exercise.

    “Running Mode is the next step, creating a running experience powered by your goals and the music you love, so every run feels more energizing and uniquely yours,” Spotify said.
