The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has launched PANaHON, a new mobile application designed to provide the public with easier access to weather forecasts, observations and weather-related alerts.

PANaHON, which stands for PAGASA National Hydro-Met Observing Network, serves as a platform for weather information sourced from PAGASA’s network of automatic and manned weather stations across the country. The app was launched during the observance of Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week from June 14 to 20.

Users can access near real-time weather observations, including rainfall, temperature, humidity and wind conditions.

The platform also features city forecasts, radar and satellite information, as well as alerts for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and tropical cyclones.

The app’s forecast section provides hourly and five-day weather outlooks, allowing users to monitor expected weather conditions in specific locations.

Users can view location-specific weather conditions, rainfall measurements and heat index advisories. The app also categorizes heat index levels to help users assess potential health risks from high temperatures.

PANaHON integrates numerical weather forecasts from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), which PAGASA said supports improved decision-making and early warning capabilities during weather events.

The mobile platform includes weather notifications, observation tools, forecast maps and customizable settings, offering users a centralized source of weather information on their smartphones.

PANaHON is available for download on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
