Artificial intelligence (AI) dominated Filipinos’ online curiosity this year, with Google’s Gemini AI emerging as the country’s most searched term in 2025.
In its annual Year in Search report, Google said the result reflects how Filipinos are increasingly relying on AI tools for daily tasks for school or for work.
It marks the first time an AI-related keyword topped the list in the Philippines, signaling how generative technology has entered the mainstream.
Other AI platforms such as DeepSeek, Claude, and ChatGPT also figured in the top trending AI-related searches, along with prompts like “humanize this,” showing how users are learning to refine their interactions with machine learning systems.
Beyond technology, the Halalan 2025 midterm elections ranked second overall, underscoring Filipinos’ continued dependence on Google Search for political updates and context.
Frequent earthquakes during the latter half of the year also drove searches for safety alerts and real-time information.
Moreover, the Roblox game Grow a Garden placed third overall, reflecting the platform’s lasting appeal among Filipino gamers.
Streaming content remained a major interest, with Squid Game retaining its grip on local audiences after its comeback and finale early this year.
Furthermore, Tennis star Alex Eala topped the list of female personalities and ranked fourth in sports searches, while singer Dionela led among male Filipino personalities with his hit Marilag outpacing global tracks on the music chart.
Google noted that all titles on the Shows and Series list were from online streaming platforms, mainly Netflix. The Philippines was cited in this year’s e-Conomy SEA report as one of the region’s fastest-growing online media markets, alongside Indonesia and Vietnam.
Government-related topics also drew significant attention, with National ID and eGovPH appearing among the top news searches, also a sign of growing public engagement in digital governance.
The Year in Search is an annual report that highlights the topics, personalities, and events that defined online activity throughout the year.
