From Digital Communities to Classrooms: EdgePoint Launches its First Digital Classroom in the Philippines

Connectivity will always be a vital component to education even in a post-pandemic world. In line with this, EdgePoint Philippines has set its sights on uplifting the status of educational systems by launching its first digital classroom project. The initial beneficiary of this project under their Connectivity for Communities program is Southville 8B National High School in Montalban, Rizal

The Connectivity for Communities program is a regional corporate responsibility project that is being rolled out in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Currently, six schools and 5000 students have benefitted from the project. As an ASEAN-based independent telecoms infrastructure company, EdgePoint has its operations based in Singapore with offices in the three aforementioned countries.

EdgePoint provides services such as sharable telecom infrastructure, small cell towers and in-building systems. The company provides connectivity services to the leading telcos in the country.

The fully digital classroom that was unveiled in Southville 8B National High School has been made in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of the Philippines and the local government, and DICT. In the first classroom that was unveiled this week, EdgePoint and its partners fully renovated an existing classroom and upgraded its interiors with first-class amenities such as current-generation desktop learning stations with full connectivity and digital learning aids. The fully air conditioned room has at least 20 computers, a sound system, plus a large widescreen LCD monitor for the instructor. Work is also being done to create an additional classroom.

Present at the event were EdgePoint Philippines CEO William Walters, EdgePoint Infrastructure CEO Suresh Sidhu, Habitat for Humanity Philippines Head of R&D Vanessa Lee Calixto, DICT Asec Philip Varilla, and Southville 8B National High School Principal Maribel Bulalayao.

In his remarks at the event, William Walters said that “With the establishment of this digital classroom, EdgePoint aims to empower students and prepare them to thrive in a brighter future. Connectivity for Communities aligns with EdgePoint’s commitment to creating positive impact in the communities we serve, and we’re pleased to contribute to a more digitally inclusive Philippines.”
