Plan on shopping for a video game console or upgrading to Sony’s latest console offering during the holiday season? Then you’re in luck and right on time – as the PlayStation 5 is finally getting its long awaited slim editions this fall season.
Announced with a short yet very straightforward reveal trailer, the new PS5 will be a new model redesign that aims to reduce the size and volume of the original by more than 30%, with weight also reduced by 18% and 24% respectively for the two different versions that will be available to consumers on launch.
Much like the original PS5 that was launched nearly three years ago, the new slim models will come in two different versions – a standard edition with a built in Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive as well as a digital edition catering to those who prefer downloading their games into their console. Those who buy the latter however have the option to purchase an Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive – which will be sold separately and is attachable by removing the side panel of the console.
Price points for the PS5 Slim Editions will vary depending on the region, but here are the details straight from the PlayStation Bloh for the US, European, U.K, and Japanese markets:
