Technology company Xiaomi has introduced its new flagship lineup, the Xiaomi 17 Series, along with updated tablets, wearables, and smart devices, putting mobile photography the focus of its strategy.
The new series includes Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi.
The new products show Xiaomi’s deeper partnership with Leica Camera. The two companies said their collaboration has moved from joint research and development to a broader strategic co-creation model. In simple terms, Leica is now more involved across hardware and software, from lens design to image tuning.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is designed for users who want advanced photography tools in a phone. It features Xiaomi’s first 1-inch LOFIC main camera sensor and a 200MP Leica telephoto camera with mechanical optical zoom from 75mm to 100mm. The zoom can extend digitally to a 400mm equivalent. Xiaomi said this setup aims to deliver clearer long-range shots and better detail in both bright and low-light scenes.
The 17 Ultra supports 4K recording at up to 120 frames per second, as well as Dolby Vision and Log formats for users who want more control over color and editing.
The standard Xiaomi 17 comes in a slimmer, lighter body but still offers a strong camera system. It uses a large Light Fusion 950 sensor and a Leica 60mm floating telephoto lens for portraits, macro shots, and up to 5x optical-level zoom. A 50MP front camera handles selfies and video calls.

Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, designed to handle gaming, multitasking, and high-resolution video capture. Battery capacity reaches up to 6,330mAh, with wired charging up to 100W and wireless charging up to 50W.
Displays across the series use OLED panels with up to 3,500 nits peak brightness and adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and better power efficiency.
To mark Leica’s 100th year, Xiaomi and Leica also introduced the Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi. The device features a Leica-inspired design, including a physical camera ring and an “Essential mode” that recreates the look of classic Leica cameras such as the Leica M9 and Leica M3.
