For the price of a mid-range smartphone, you can get a quality 55″ Smart TV from Xiaomi

I don’t pay too much attention to the prices of smart TVs in the market, because unlike smartphones, you really just buy one or two of these televisions for your home and forget about it. What I do know is that the price of TVs have a steep curve downwards when new technology is introduced. The first flatscreen TVs from brands like Sony were pegged at P1M pesos for an 80″ screen. Yep. You heard that right – one million pesos. This was way back in the mid 2000’s when flatscreen LED technology was new. A few years later you could get a 32″ LED for roughly P40,000. And then you could get 24″ gaming monitors with high refresh rates for P15,000. I’m one of those consumers who bought most of my screens in the past 10 years so I was able to get really good deals from retail stores. Out of the three other TVs at home, only one had a built-in SMART TV function (a DEVANT) because at that time I wasn’t too keen on the tech: the other two TV’s (Samsung) have Google Chromecast and an Amazon Firestick (SONY).

This is the first time for me to use a Xiaomi TV, but not the first time to use its smart functions — back in the days when Chromecast was hard to find online, my friends would all buy these Mi TV boxes that allowed for Google Chromecast features. The problem was that during these early days (I speak like it was the 1800’s but hello, this was only in the early 2010’s) the firmware was a bit wonky and since it was 3rd party, it had a hard time keeping up with Google updates to the built-in App Store. Fast forward to day, similar problems can persist with older Chromecast or Firestick models with app and region compatibility. For instance, it’s tough to make the local Disney+ work on an Amazon Firestick because the defauly software version is region locked to the USA.

I was glad to know that out of the box, this new Xiaomi TV A 2025 series supported the top apps, with the controller having direct links to Netflix and Amazon Prime. Other services like HBO GO and Disney+ are also supported without having to download anything else.

What really surprised me was the cost. The 55″ (pictured here) is more than enough for the family living room and it is priced at a super affordable P17,695 (this is a promo price; the real SRP is still quite affordable at P20,095 — the price of a mid-tier smartphone. The 32″ is even more insane at P5,795 only which is the price of an entry level phone!

For P20,095 you get a 55″ smart TV that supports several audio input methods. I’m connecting my AudioEngine A2+ via USB (the red ones in the photos) so that my speakers’ built-in DAC can push better quality audio. The stock speakers from the Xiaomi TV A is decent by itself, but it’s always better to use the digital input, which this TV supports for better sound quality.

The Xiaomi TV A 2025 series will be available as a Shopee exclusive from August 29 to September 5, with 0% interest on SPayLater for up to six months and an option to pay via cash on delivery (COD) for all sizes. The Xiaomi TV A Pro 2025 starts during this promo period for a special price at P14,295 for the 43” variant (from P16,195 SRP), going all the way up to 75” for P39,995 (from P44,195).

Meanwhile, the entry-level 32” Xiaomi TV A 2025 and the rest of the series is available during the promo for a special price of P5,795 (from P7,695 SRP), while the 55” variant goes for P17,695 (from P20,095 SRP).
