In 2024, the POCO X6 Pro 5G breaks the ceiling for the midrange performer standard, starts at P16,999

    • P19,999 12GB RAM and 512GB ROM
    • P16,999 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM

Here’s a treat. I have in my hands the POCO X6 Pro 5G, a mid-range powerhouse that’s geared towards performance and gaming. The X6, in a nutshell, checks all the right boxes. The unit we have comes with 12GB RAM and 512GB ROM storage. Although the device has no expansion slots, both variants – the other is the more affordable 8GB + 256GB model have more than enough RAM and storage for everyday digital living. As someone involved in mobile game design for Android phones, I can confidently say that in 2024, 8GB RAM phones are the new standard minimum for true performance if you were to play most games.

At the center of the POCO X6 Pro 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra chip. It’s only the first month of 2024 and we are already seeing huge gains in POCO’s Q1 lineup. The Dimensity 8300 is a solid chassis to build entertainment phones with 5G capabilities. If 2023 was all about the Helios G99 processor (amazing performance for 4G devices), the Dimensity 8300 Ultra is, in POCO’s own words, heralds a new SPEED-CIES of devices due to native support for 5G, improved GPU and CPU performance. For the POCO X6 Pro 5G, this means a new ceiling has been broken for mid-range performance devices.

With some photography and Discord chatting across an 8 hour day, battery use went from 100% to 71%. These days however I welcome quick charge solutions, and POCO makes use of the 67W turbo charger that roughly charges 3% per minute. Say you’re in a mall and you desperately need to charge up – what I usually do is approach a vendor with a similar turbo charger (compatible with both POCO and Mi) and gas up for 10 minutes. That gives you more than 30% charge! Also, look at that beautiful charging screen below.

    Other small things:

    • I like how the stock case that comes with it isn’t a see-through gel case. It’s a rubber window case that elegantly shows off the triple-camera + flash and the neat POCO branding.
    • The box has no earphones bundled. The POCO X6 5G has no 3.5mm jack as well so you will need to use a USB C to 3.5mm converter with existing earphones or pair via your favorite Bluetooth in-ears.
    • I think that if you’re looking for a new daily driver this Q1, the X6 is worth the look because for less than P20,000 you get a performance level 5G phone with a bright 6.67″ CrystalRes Flow AMOLED screen at 120Hz rerfesh rate. These are the standards for entertainment and gaming.
