Apple introduced its new iPhone 17 lineup during its annual Apple event, unveiling performance upgrades, design changes, and a new addition to its roster, the slimmer and lighter iPhone Air.

The lineup includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the iPhone Air. Company executives said the series reflects Apple’s most significant hardware refresh in recent years, featuring improvements in displays, chips, cameras, and battery life.

The iPhone 17 carries a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness and ProMotion technology for smoother visuals. It is powered by the A19 chip, which Apple says delivers faster processing and greater energy efficiency. The model also comes with dual 48-megapixel rear cameras and an 18-megapixel front camera.

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are equipped with the A19 Pro chip and a vapor-chamber cooling system for sustained performance. Apple said the Pro and Pro Max offer the longest battery life on an iPhone. Both models feature a triple-lens camera system, including wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses with enhanced low-light performance.

The iPhone Air, meanwhile, introduces a thinner and lighter design without compromising on performance. It has a 6.5-inch display, the A19 Pro chip, and a dual-camera system that lets users use front and rear cameras simultaneously, positioned as a mid-tier option for users seeking portability.

Aside from the new iPhones, Apple expanded its wearable and audio lineup. The AirPods Pro 3 were introduced with enhanced noise cancellation, adaptive audio modes, a built-in heart-rate sensor, and live translation features.

Apple introduced Live Translation in beta, a hands-free capability powered by computational audio and Apple Intelligence that allows in-person conversations across select languages. When enabled, the feature translates speech in real time through the AirPods, while iPhone can also be used to display live transcriptions for those without the earbuds.

The earbuds also provide up to eight hours of listening time on a single charge and now use USB-C charging.

Apple also announced three new smartwatches. The Apple Watch Series 11 offers 5G connectivity, hypertension alerts, improved sleep tracking, and up to 24 hours of battery life with faster charging.

The Apple Watch SE 3, the company’s entry-level model, now comes with an always-on display, the latest S10 chip, sleep apnea detection, wrist-temperature sensing, and gesture controls such as double-tap and wrist-flick.

Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Ultra 3, designed for outdoor and extreme activities, boasts the largest and brightest Apple Watch display, a rugged titanium case, dual-frequency GPS, satellite connectivity, and up to 42 hours of battery life, which can extend to 72 hours in Low Power Mode.

Pre-orders for the new iPhones, watches, and AirPods will begin on September 12, with retail availability starting September 19 in select markets.
