We spoke to Nate Clarke, President and CEO of GoTyme Bank on their journey to acquire a VASP license from the BSP.

It’s a Go for crypto for GoTyme Bank.

GoTyme Bank recently made headlines by securing a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). This approval, which is a rarity as the BSP has limited license issuance, signals GoTyme’s commitment to embracing blockchain and crypto innovations. Nate Clarke, President and CEO of GoTyme Bank, shared insights on the bank’s plans to introduce cryptocurrency services and what this means for the Philippine market.

Clarke sees the cryptocurrency landscape as an exciting new field in fintech. “Crypto-assets and blockchain technology open up new possibilities and use cases in finance,” he explained, noting that while public interest in crypto may fluctuate, its foundational growth and maturity are undeniable. GoTyme’s decision to pursue the VASP license was strategic and deliberate, part of a long-term vision that Clarke and his team had carefully prepared for.

“We’ve been contemplating this journey for quite some time,” Clarke remarked, describing the licensing process as structured and clear. GoTyme’s entry into crypto comes as a natural evolution in its strategy to deepen engagement with its customers, particularly as it enables more Filipinos to explore digital assets safely and conveniently.

GoTyme’s First Crypto Offering: Basic but Strategic

With the VASP license in place, GoTyme Bank is setting the stage to roll out a straightforward range of crypto services. Initially, the bank plans to offer customers the ability to buy, hold, and sell select digital assets, laying the foundation for broader functionalities in the future. Clarke emphasized that this phased approach allows the bank to gauge customer interest and collect feedback on their crypto experience. “We want to gradually expand into other use cases, always informed by our customer’s needs and the market’s appetite for innovation,” he added.

In terms of token offerings, GoTyme Bank is considering popular cryptocurrencies that resonate with the local market, though it remains open to suggestions from customers. Clarke shared that the bank’s token selection strategy is meant to offer clients diverse exposure to emerging trends, and he hinted at future possibilities of listing tokens from other projects as GoTyme gauges market demand.

    Bank-Grade Security and Seamless Integration

What truly sets GoTyme apart, Clarke explained, is the bank’s integration of crypto services with the traditional banking framework—a first for a Philippine bank. GoTyme aims to provide a secure, convenient, and cost-effective gateway between fiat and crypto. “Our bank-grade technology and security measures ensure our customers experience top-tier protection,” Clarke emphasized. “By merging crypto and banking, customers can move money seamlessly between pesos and digital assets, and save on fees that typically come with standalone crypto platforms.”

While NFT marketplace plans aren’t immediate, Clarke expressed openness to community input on future developments. GoTyme Bank’s foray into crypto could mark a significant shift in the Philippine financial landscape, offering Filipinos a secure, user-friendly way to navigate the world of digital assets.
