Ubisoft has confirmed that a remake of its popular pirate-themed game “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” is in development, reviving one of the most beloved titles in the long-running franchise more than a decade after its original release.

The remake, reportedly titled “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced,” was acknowledged by the French game publisher in a blogpost as part of a broader update outlining the future of the Assassin’s Creed series.

The project had long been rumored following leaks and hints from industry insiders before Ubisoft finally confirmed its existence.

First released in 2013, “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” follows pirate-assassin Edward Kenway as he sails the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy.

The game became a fan favorite for its open-world naval exploration, ship battles, and storyline, which is entirely different from the series’ traditional city-based settings.

Ubisoft has not yet disclosed a release date or detailed gameplay changes for the remake, but concept art release alongside the announcement shows Kenway standing atop the mast of his ship, the Jackdaw.

Reports suggest the remake will feature updated visuals and gameplay systems designed for modern hardware, including improved environments, smoother transitions between land and sea exploration.

Ubisoft hopes to expand the Assassin’s Creed franchise with several new projects, such as Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, a multiplayer experience known as Invictus, and a mobile game set in ancient China.

Ubisoft did not say when additional details about the Black Flag remake will be revealed, but the company teased fans to “keep your spyglass on the horizon.”

The original Black Flag remains widely regarded as one the strongest entries in the franchise, making its return one of the most anticipated revivals in  modern gaming.
