Telecommunications providers PLDT and Globe are rolling out free calls, data, and other support for Filipinos in parts of the Middle East as tensions continue in the region, allowing families to reach each other without worrying about added phone charges.

“I’ve asked PLDT and Smart to offer free calls for Filipinos in countries affected by the conflict in the Middle East. Details to follow, but the marching order is to make it as easy as possible for our countrymen to reach their loved ones, and vice versa,” Manuel V. Pangilinan, chair and CEO of PLDT, said in a post on X.

PLDT said Filipinos in Iran, Israel, Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia can call the Philippines for free using the TinBo app through a Smart Virtual Number.

PLDT, Smart, and TNT subscribers in the Philippines can also make free calls to loved ones in those same countries until March 7. The company said it will review the situation and decide if the free service should be extended.

Worrying about our OFWs. I’ve asked PLDT and Smart to offer free calls for Filipinos in countries affected by the conflict in the Middle East. Details to follow, but the marching order is to make it as easy as possible for our countrymen to reach their loved ones, and vice versa.

Filipinos overseas may also call Smart’s 24/7 crisis hotline at +63288457799 for assistance. They may also reach the DMW-OWWA 1348 hotline through the TinBo app.

For its part, Globe Telecom is providing a free roaming package to eligible customers in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait.

The package includes 1GB of mobile data, 15 minutes of calls, and 15 text messages valid for seven days. The free service will be automatically credited to qualified Globe Prepaid, TM, and Postpaid users in those countries, with no registration required.

For customers in Iran, Globe said it will provide load support or bill adjustments to help reduce roaming costs.

“We recognize the importance of connection especially when circumstances are unpredictable. These measures represent Globe’s commitment to supporting our customers abroad, keeping them reliably linked to family and critical communication even in challenging contexts,” said Paula Rivera-Castillo, head of Globe International Business.

Both companies said they continue to monitor developments and are prepared to extend assistance if needed.
