Stay Safe: GoTyme Bank and DOJ Team Up to Fight Scams

Scams and cybercrimes are everywhere these days. From shady texts offering fake promos to dodgy websites trying to steal your info, it feels like scammers are always one step ahead. But here’s the good news: GoTyme Bank and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are teaming up to fight back, making your online life safer.

The Big Problem: Scams Are Skyrocketing

Did you know scam calls and texts have gone up by 200% this year? That’s according to Whoscall, an anti-scam app. From January to mid-August alone, Filipinos reported over 3 million text scams and 321,000 scam calls. These aren’t just annoying; they’re dangerous. Scammers trick people into clicking fake links, downloading harmful apps, or falling for fake promos.

Fighting Back: What GoTyme and DOJ Are Doing

To tackle this mess, GoTyme Bank and the DOJ signed a partnership deal to:

    • Help law enforcement catch and prosecute scammers.
    • Use laws like the Cybercrime Prevention Act to stop fraud.
    • Share tools and tech to keep banking secure for everyone.

Albert Tinio, GoTyme Bank’s Co-CEO, put it best, “Part and parcel of unlocking the Filipino financial potential is making sure that the customers’ bank accounts are safe and secure. Scams continue to widen in all forms, and fraudsters seem to operate with impunity. We are happy that the DOJ has given us a chance to partner with them to show the public that we have a united front against all these scammers and fraudsters.”

    How They’re Keeping You Safe

GoTyme isn’t just sitting back; they’re leveling up their security game:

    • They’re using advanced AI to catch shady activities before they become problems.
    • They’re refining their Know Your Customer (KYC) processes to spot fraudsters.
    • You’ll always have the option to talk to a real person if you need help—no annoying bots here.

What You Can Do to Stay Safe

Of course, a little caution on your part goes a long way. Here’s how you can avoid being scammed:

    1. Don’t click on random links. If it feels off, it probably is.
    2. Verify promos and websites. Scammers love to fake legitimacy.
    3. Use strong passwords. And yes, please enable two-factor authentication for extra security.

This partnership is just the beginning, but it’s a big step toward a safer digital space for all of us. So stay sharp, stay secure, and let’s show those scammers they picked the wrong crowd to mess with!
