Global smartphone provider Honor gave the world a first look at the Honor V Purse, its newest foldable concept phone that resembles a wearable purse, at this year’s Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA).

The V Purse is an outward foldable concept phone with interchangeable straps and an interactive Always-On Display that shows different designs, personalized and customized by the user. The display reacts to the time of the day and moves according to the user’s movement, making it seem like a real-life purse.

Honor’s CEO, George Zhao, said that it is the “first time” that the brand considered producing a new smartphone from the fashion point of view that could alter the way consumers “look at the digital life.”

“With the new V Purse, we want everything to be the sole status, and also pursue the extreme design,” Zhao said during his keynote speech at the IFA 2023.

The 9.9mm phone also boasts display designs from artists from luxury brands and all over the world, such as Burberry menswear design director Bram Van Diepen, world-renowned graphic designer Yuan Youmin, contemporary artist Yunuene Esparza, and visual artist and author Xiao Hui Wang.

The brand also intends to open the V Purse design platform to the public so users can participate.

“Smartphones do not only give us the convenience to help us improve the daily usage, the daily life. It can also be a fashionable status,” Zhao said.

Honor bagged 36 media awards at the said tech trade show where they also released “world’s thinnest smartphone,” Magic V2, which is 4.70 mm in thickness.

The awards were given to the Chinese technology brand in recognition of its innovations and contributions to the future of the smartphone industry.
