Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Review: Where Gaming Prowess Meets Mobility

The Lenovo’s Legion Pro 7i is ready to redefine your gaming experience. It’s not all the time we get to see a true powerhouse gaming laptop in this day and age of smartphones and portable gaming devices (I’m looking at you Lenovo Legion Go!). So yes, a true gamer that balances desktop gaming and the need to be on the go will appreciate this. When we say “balance desktop gaming” — we mean it. This device is a powerhouse, but it is also quite heavy. The power charger itself is heavier than most smartphones. But, as gamers who game, this does not deter us!

Holy cow look at that charging brick!

The 8th generation of the Legion Pro 7i boasts a stunning 16-inch 16:10 display and is powered by the latest 13th generation Intel Core HX-series processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics. In this review, we’ll dive into the impressive features that make the Legion Pro 7i a true gaming powerhouse and a versatile companion for users on the go.

Dynamic Performance with Lenovo’s AI Engine+

The Legion Pro 7i stands out with its dynamically tuned performance, thanks to Lenovo’s proprietary AI Engine+. This intelligent system automatically optimizes games and boosts frame rates, providing a seamless and immersive gaming experience. Whether you’re engaging in fast-paced battles or exploring vast open worlds, the Legion Pro 7i ensures you’re always at the top of your game.

Cooler Than Ever with Coldfront 5.0

Cooling is a critical aspect of any gaming laptop, and Lenovo has pushed the boundaries with the latest Coldfront 5.0 technologies. The Legion Pro 7i incorporates vapor chamber piping, liquid metal on key components, and an updated fan and exhaust system to keep temperatures in check during intense gaming sessions. Say goodbye to overheating and hello to extended gaming marathons.

Immersive Display and Superior Sound

The 16-inch 16:10 WQXGA display on the Legion Pro 7i is a visual delight, boasting a 240Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness. With Dolby Vision support, your games come to life with vivid colors and sharp details. Whether you’re gaming, streaming, or working, this display offers a top-notch visual experience.

But it’s not just about what you see; it’s also about what you hear. The Legion Pro 7i features the Harman Super Linear Speaker System and Smart Amp with Nahimic Audio. Prepare to be immersed in crystal-clear sound, enhancing your gaming and multimedia experiences.

Mobility Meets Might

Lenovo understands that gaming laptops need to be versatile, so the Legion Pro 7i takes a sleek and subtle approach to design. Its CNC all-aluminum body in an Onyx Grey colorway exudes sophistication. The laptop’s exterior features an RGB “U” light strip that can add a touch of personality when desired. Hexagonal vents around the laptop’s exterior and cutouts in the aluminum bottom ensure efficient airflow, maintaining a cool temperature during extended gaming sessions.

Of note, we need to set expectations — “mobility” for a gaming laptop doesn’t mean the weight of a MacBook Air. Yes, 6.17 lbs is a dumbell, so you will definitely need a very comforable bag (and a good shoulder massage) if you plan to take this with you as a daily driver.

The Legion TrueStrike Gaming Keyboard

Lenovo’s commitment to delivering an exceptional gaming experience continues with the Legion TrueStrike keyboard. The keyboard offers superb key travel and actuation, ensuring that every keystroke is accurate and responsive. With features like 100% anti-ghosting and a full-size number pad, the Legion Pro 7i provides the tools you need to dominate in games and be productive in other tasks.

RGB backlighting with Legion Spectrum, located in the Lenovo Vantage app, allows you to customize your lighting profiles. Express your style and enhance your gaming ambiance with the Legion TrueStrike RGB keyboard.

Gripes

For a gaming laptop, it passes most fronts but a RTX 4090 packed into this baby does reduce your battery life especially if you’re playing demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077. The presence of two USB A slots puzzle us — one would have been OK for the mouse but in this day and age, Thunderbolt and USB C cables are really the way forward (to clarify, yes the 7i does have one USB Cand one Thunderbolt USB C slot.

In Conclusion

The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is a remarkable gaming laptop that strikes the perfect balance between power and portability. The 16:10 aspect ratio is an eccentric addition to the 240Hz refresh rate, and we will take it. If you’re in the market for the pinnacle of gaming laptops, the Legion Pro 7i is a compelling choice that will not disappoint. Just make sure you have a wall socket nearby. This is more of a desktop replacement than a true laptop.
